Spoken Word - The Pause
“I’m fine.” It’s often what we say when we’re not ok. This is what it feels like. This piece is about that moment, the pause between “how are you?” and “I’m fine”. About when it SEEMS better to wear the mask than to explain what’s really going on inside. Exhaustion. Numbness. Fear. Pain. If you relate to this piece, please remember that this isn’t the end, it’s the middle. And middle chapters don’t define your whole story. The cycle can feel endless, but healing isn’t linear. You're not broken for feeling this way. There is help. There is hope. You’re not alone. If you relate to this spoken word please remember that healing isn’t linear. It DOES get better. Please keep fighting. Please keep trying. Please reach out. Ways I find that we can make it easier for someone to reach out: 1: Check in. Make the first move. Genuinely, and sincerely ask how they’re doing. 2: Be patient. They may not feel able to explain how they’re feeling right away. It may take time. 3: Offer a space for them to talk. Whether that’s to you, and/or providing them with more professional resources and help, guide them to a place where they will be heard. 4: Be there. Explaining how I was feeling was only the first step. The fear of judgment and rejection didn’t always fade afterwards. Reassure them that you still care and that you’re there to support them in any way you can. Spoken Word - The Impact of Trauma
A spoken word called “The Impact of Trauma”. I wrote this spoken word back in July and I approached my friend, the very talented Sisi Lian and asked if she’d be interested in working on a few illustrations to help tell the story for this project. I knew I wanted this spoken word to focus on a male character, as I feel men’s mental health isn’t represented enough. I provided Sisi with a few details about the character and the emotional message I wanted to portray through this video. She worked so hard on this and did an amazing job illustrating the impact of trauma. While I usually record my poems with my own voice, I thought a male voice would be a better fit for this project. My good friend Suleiman did a great job recording the voiceover of the poem. The impact of trauma can linger. It’s not just in the past. It’s ok to be angry and in pain. Trauma can feel like a barrier that we will never get past, but with help and support the trauma can fade over time. While sometimes it may never go away, it can be less dominant in our lives. Thank you to Sisi and Suleiman for bringing this project to life !

Spoken Word - Forest City
This spoken word is called Forest City! It’s about London Ontario and what this city means to me. 💙 I have officially lived in London for 9 years now. I moved here in August 2015. The footage in this video are clips I’ve gathered over the past 9 years of various shots of London that have stood out to me or have had a significant impact on me. Some of it was filmed on my Canon XA15 camera, some on my iPhone 12 Pro, some on the iPhone XR, and the older clips were filmed on the iPhone SE (1st generation) before I started film school. I definitely feel I’ve grown up here. And I did! My 20s were full of growth and self discovery, and this city supported me and my journey. Supports like Fanshawe College, CMHA, Youth Opportunities Unlimited, Intercommunity, and many others. And while there are undoubtedly many things that need to be improved in London, I strongly believe in this city’s abilities, much like how this city believed in me. Forest City, thank you for being my home. 💙
